Please support my swim for Save the Bay.
Save The Bay's annual cross bay swim had to be cancelled this year because of Covid19. To keep everyone safe, there won't be hundreds of swimmers, kayakers, volunteers and staff gathered on the Naval War College lawn or at the post swimmer party on Jamestown. But swimmers this year are registering to do a "virtual swim," swimming the distance of 1.7 miles or more anyway, whereever and whenever they choose, and raising money as in the past. Save the Bay counts on this annual fundraiser, in most years it's largest fundraiser, to sustain its vital activities to protect Narragansett Bay, it's watershed and marshes, and ultimately the ocean beyond.
I've registered as a swimmer again this year. Other members of my East Side YMCA team completed their swim August 15 at Barrington beach (see picture). I was unable to join them, as I'm still recovering from hip replacement surgery I had in mid-May, and shoulder issues from prolonged reliance on my cane. I'm doing well (no more pain!!), swimming again and doing PT but not yet up to a long swim. But I'm determined, and promise, to complete my swim by the end of September.
I hope you'll consider sponsoring my swim again this year, and supporting Save the Bay's critical enviromental stewardship.
Whatever is comfortable for you, each dollar counts. Please help Save the Bay continue its vital work by supporting my swim.
