Shannon Swims for the Bay!
This August, I look forward to completing my first Save the Bay swim! I was planning on swimming in 2017, but the event was unfortunately canceled due to weather. I hope the 2018 swim will be the first of many to come!
Many of you know that swimming has long been an important part of my life - it filled my childhood summers in Virginia with great memories and continues to bring me joy in Rhode Island. I first got into open water swimming in 2009, completing a 1-mile race in the Chesapeake Bay. Since then, I have completed 1-mile, 2-mile, and 4.4-mile events along the East Coast. I try to do at least one swim each year (I have a very casual approach to competing!) and rely on my years of experience rather than intense training to get through the event. All I have to do is just keep swimming, right?
I am particularly excited to participate in the Save the Bay swim because I deeply value the environment and try to do my part to promote education and preservation. The money that I raise for this event goes towards exactly that - fostering awareness of and support for environmental issues in the Narragansett Bay region. So I get to swim AND help the environment - it's a win-win situation!
If you are interested in supporting me in this effort, I hope that you will consider contributing to my swim. All donations are greatly appreciated! Let's Save the Bay! :)
