Making Every Lap Count
Rhode Island has always been a special place for me- from college, to summers spent working/surfing in Newport, to meeting my best college friend (read on for more about that!), to the place where I discovered my passion for science and following that career path. Now, two of my siblings and their families live in Rhode Island. I know that there will be many more years of "Urso's" enjoying Narragansett bay and the natural beauty of Rhode Island.
That college best friend and I also spent many summers in Rhode Island, and have continued to remain friends over the years. Traditionally, we would meet up across the country to run half marathons or marathons, but this year (after surviving a pretty intense knee surgery) she had a brilliant idea: "Why don't we show everyone how bad*ss we are by doing a long-distance sport that requires us to hold our breath half the time! Then, we can help Rhode Island by asking our friends and family to donate to 'Save the Bay'." Between her convincing, and the overall cause of "Save the Bay" (to make sure that Narragansett Bay is swimmable, fishable, healthy, and accessible to everyone), I signed up for a 1.7 mile trek across Narragansett Bay on August 4th.
Looking forward to this adventure! Thanks in advance for your generosity!
