REGISTRATION OPENS THURSDAY, APRIL 15

SAVE THE BAY SWIM AND VIRTUAL OPEN

We are busy planning our Annual Save The Bay Swim on Saturday, July 17, 2021. As we work with our partners at the Coast Guard and Navy, as well as with Rhode Island government officials, we continue to adapt this year’s event to the guidelines and recommendations that best support the health and safety of all our participants, volunteers, supporters and staff.

The support of our partners is dependent on several factors and conditions related to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions and Department of Navy guidance. The 45th Annual Swim will look very different than past Swims, due to COVID-19 and the considerations that it necessitates. While the event is always subject to change or cancellation, we currently plan to hold a scaled-down in-person Swim welcoming a limited number of participants on the 2-mile cross-bay course from Newport Naval Base to Jamestown on July 17. Due to the distancing and crowd guidelines, we can only welcome swimmers who do not require a kayaker to swim across the Bay safely.

Save The Bay will also bring back the Virtual Swim and Open Series, offering challenges that can be completed independently and remotely, including the classic 2.0-mile long swim, the new 0.5-mile short swim, a 5K run or walk, a 25-mile ride, a 5K row, a 5.0-mile kayak or a 2.0-mile stand up paddleboard.

LOTTERY OPTION: You may sign up for Virtual Swim and click the option to be signed up for the lottery for remaining spaces for the in-person swim on July 17 in the questions section of your registration.
